A Blog List

Back in March 2007, Elmanco and Fubiz collaborated on A Blog List, which is pretty much what it sounds like. They've recently updated the list and I couldn't be more excited. Their efforts were in hopes of compiling the best blogs out there in the categories of design, graphics, fashion, marketing, and new technology.

Over at Please Sir, Diana recently asked her readers what they consider makes a blog successful and why they read blogs. Both of which are important questions to consider if you blog. The updated list definitely gives insight into the makings of a successful blog and I'll be cruising them all for inspiration.

Top 5 Unconventional Urban Graffiti Executions

There's been a lot of buzz the past week about ephemeral art. The Cans Festival just concluded in London, where local street artists were encouraged to come out and stencil in designated areas around the city.

Similarly, Brain Pickings just compiled a list of the Top 5 Unconventional Urban Graffiti Executions. I liked what they had to say of their list:
"What bigger mark of a city’s self-expression than its graffiti culture? The tricky thing is that much of urban graffiti has become contrived, sliding by our attention as expected graphic clichés. The ones that break the norm manage to leave a cultural mark bigger than the physical paint-on-concrete one."
I'd considered posting several of these installments individually in the past, but never got around to it. I particularly love the storm drain graffiti of Brazilian duo 6emeia.

26 Hand Drawn Websites

Hand drawn websites inspired by personal sketches and handwriting have become an ever growing trend in design. While the idea of having a website appear hand drawn is a complete dissonance, I think it's utterly fantastic and promises a near unique appearance. Inspiredology
has complied a lits of 26 Hand Drawn Websites definitely worth a look.

110 Best Books

What are the makings of the perfect personal library? According to Telegraph, it's the books on their 110 Best Books List. I like lists (especially 'best of' lists) and I like books, so clearly this is right up my ally. They categorize the books according to the following: classics, peotry, literary fiction, romantic fiction, children's books, sci-fi, crime, books that changed the world, books that changed your world, history, and lives. I would love to make my way through this list, top-to-bottom, or really any 'best of' literary list. Oh if I only have endless amounts of free time.

100 Best Last Lines From Novels

I post about books or items related to books quite a lot I've realized. There was this one...and this one...oh and we can't forget this one. Ok, you get the idea.

I've had a long standing love affair with the written word. My first real job was at a library, I'm an English major, and truthfully I'm more concerned with adding to my bookshelf than my closet (says I with a snort while pushing my glasses back up onto the bridge of my nose).

So naturally when I saw that the American Book Review released their list of what they consider to be the 100 Best Last Lines From Novels I got quite excited. Making their list:
52. Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody. – J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye (1951)

77. Tomorrow, I'll think of some way to get him back. After all tomorrow is another day. - Margaret Mitchell, Gone With The Wind (1936)

Coolest Water Towers

I'm not sure what, but something inspired me to Google search artistic and creative water towers. In doing so I found the Kilgore Memorial Library of Nebraska website had an impressive compilation of photos and links to some of the countries most interesting water towers. Take a look for yourself: Artistic Water Towers.

There is also an entire site devoted to water towers with information and images at Water Towers of the World.
