DIY: Cork Creations

For whatever odd reason, I always feel inclined to save the corks from the wine bottles I've opened. I have a bag of them sitting in my closet collecting dust. With these two DIY projects, I think I finally have a reason to justify having hung on to them.

For the Love of Beer

Bill Bramanti loves beer...a lot. Pabst Blue Ribbon to be exact. He loves it so much he has designed his own coffin to resemble the can of his favorite beer. Since the Illinois native is in good health and not planning on needing the coffin anytime soon, he'll be using it as a cooler in the mean time.

DIY: Vinyl Projects

Over on Elsewares they carry several vinyl-inspired products like the Vintage Vinyl Frame pictured above (originally seen here). I have a growing record collection and while most of the records I cherish, I've gotten a few that don't play. Inspired by Elsewares' products, I looked into a few DIY projects to find something productive to do with the records. Here's what I found (click for links):

Vintage Vinyl Card Holder

Dali Inspired Melting Clock
The Record Bowl
Does anyone else have any creative DIY projects pertaining to old vinyls? I'd love to hear about them!

Instructables: Electric Umbrella

The latest show and tell on Instructables teaches you how to make an electric umbrella, an idea I was quite impressed with. I don't have the tools nor the patience to actually make one, but I love the idea regardless. The final product includes a dimmer switch and all, for ambiance of course!

If you haven't checked out Instructables yet, it's worth a peek. Dubbed the "world's largest show and tell," users post instructions to various projects ranging from how to build a "totally awesome airplane" to how to "grow a square watermelon."

Muxtape

Muxtape (no that's not a spelling error) is simple.
1) Create an account
2) Create your own MP3 mix
3) Allow it to be listened to by others on any internet browser/listen to other mixes
Not only is this incredibly easy/brilliant, but it's a great way to share what you're listening to and score some new tunes yourself.

Scrabble Coasters

Everyone needs coasters, or at least everyone who cares not to destroy their furniture on a hot summer's day. I found these DIY Scrabble Coasters and immediately knew what my next project was going to be. With a pack of scrabble letters and a tub mod-podge; these wordy coasters could be yours. I saw a few variations of this project on several blogs, one I liked suggested putting beverage words into the jumble of letters.

I also found these Scrabble Game Board Coasters over on the Etsy shop Chaos Into Art. I think the combination of the two would be adorable on any coffee table.

DIY: iPod Case

Use an old Walkman to camouflage your iPod. Not only is it a great idea, it will likely prevent your iPod from getting stolen.
