Munna on the Run

Back in April I posted The Reader's Alphabet poster by Hemant Anant Jain. Shortly after doing so I received a lovely e-mail from the artist and have enjoyed a correspondence with him since. He recently turned me on to his blog Munna on the Run where he showcases a lot of his recent work. Among my favorites are the What Are You Reading series done for the Midland Bookshop in Delhi, again book related so no surprise that I loved it.

A Blog List

Back in March 2007, Elmanco and Fubiz collaborated on A Blog List, which is pretty much what it sounds like. They've recently updated the list and I couldn't be more excited. Their efforts were in hopes of compiling the best blogs out there in the categories of design, graphics, fashion, marketing, and new technology.

Over at Please Sir, Diana recently asked her readers what they consider makes a blog successful and why they read blogs. Both of which are important questions to consider if you blog. The updated list definitely gives insight into the makings of a successful blog and I'll be cruising them all for inspiration.

A Home For Alice

I've mentioned before in previous posts my love for collaborative photography projects as well as Polaroids. A Home For Alice is a project that combines the two, and I've fallen in love. After Alice commented on a few posts here at Double Takes, I learned of the project. The concept behind it truly has heart:

"I left home a year ago, and since then, i keep looking for a place to live. A place to feel home. But didn't find it yet. So I had this idea about a world wide art project, simply called "A Home for Alice", where people would send me via post mail a Polaroid picture of their house, along with a little text about why they feel home there."

The submissions are all featured on the project's blog, as well as in an exhibit at the Rosie Gallery in Melbourne, Australia. At the end of the project, the best submissions are going to be compiled in a book. Tomorrow I plan on grabbing my camera and getting a shot of my house, expect it shortly Alice!

Musical and Magnetic Bookshelves

If you happen to be one of my frequent readers, you know that I post about bookshelves a lot. Maybe too much? These two were just too cool to pass up.

WebUrbanist recently compiled a list of 2o Unusually Brilliant Bookcase and Bookshelf Designs. Several of their featured items were also on the Freshomes 30 Most Creative Bookshelves list I posted back in March. I was thinking maybe I needed to start a whole bookshelves blog to channel my growing obssesion, then I found the appropriately titled Bookshelf and all was right in my world. It's fascinating, check it out.

I'm loving the work of Marnie Vollenhals, who sells under the name J.AUSTINRyan. Her paintings are so bright and happy. I could fill my whole house with them and be guaranteed to never have a bad day. Check out her website and new blog for more of her work.

Ten:15

I'm such a sucker for collaborative photography projects. While the emphasis can often be on concept rather than quality of content, the end result is surely unique. Ten:15 asks you to capture your life in a particular moment (10:15 am). The photographs are posted for sharing and comparing on their blog. What are you doing at 10:15 am?

The Neon Lights Museum: Las Vegas

If you do not frequently visit Gigi Leonard's blog Roadside Scholar...you should. I've posted several items 'found' on her blog (as I'm about to do again) and can say it is nothing short of wonderful. Recently, Gigi (aka The Scholar) posted about the Las Vegas Neon Sign Graveyard. It's essentially a 3-acre final resting place of those infamous neon signs synonymous with Vegas. As it's officially known, the Neon Sign Museum offers tours and educational programs about their collection of signs dating as far back as the 1940s.

I've never thought about what happens to those signs, admittedly I've never even been to Vegas, but when I do make it there I certainly plan on visiting with my camera at my side.

Face Your Pockets

Face Your Pockets is an interactive blog that encourages viewers to reveal what they carry with them on a daily basis. Participation is easy: empty your purse, backpack, or pockets onto a scanner and post the results. Random, yet oddly entertaining.

David Goss and Phoebe Coulton's blog is in my opinion sheer brillance. What If... is their collection of thoughts and ideas pertaining to the question "what if they..." and it's worth a look. Clever, entertaining, and thought provoking. Enjoy!
