Binta Armchair: Philippe Bestenheider

How wild are these armchairs by Philippe Bestenheider? The shape of the Binta Armchair is modeled after African wood carvings, while the multi-patten upholstery is reminiscent of the textiles worn by Senegalese women, according to the artists statement. I especially love the bright colors and bold patterns.

Hey there!
Pretty awesome chairs, but it's important to remember that the generalization of Africa as one country should not be spread.

One should specify whether by "Africa" they mean from the Congo, Ethiopia, or...South Africa? What about Morocco? Egypt's on that continent, too.

A lot of readers view your blog, so please help people learn to make this distinction.

Thanks

Interesting perspectives - I know, as an African myself, that I would use general terms to describe some styles - Eastern, Asian, African, Latino, Mediterranean or European.
Jo March also has an interesting perspective as I do think that Africa is a dark unknown continent. I live in South Africa and have experienced some great ignorance as to where that actually is when I have traveled overseas.
"South Africa?" "Where's that?" "What's it part of?"

Having just been to the country of Sierra Leone, West Africa this month I can attest to the fabric being bright and colorful as they like there. Unfortunately most of the people of Sierra Leone could not afford this chair. Although I think they would very much like it.
