Icon Cutting Board

This may be the epitome of kitchy (you'll get it in a second). Chiasso is carrying these super cool pop culture cutting boards featuring the faces of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis depicted through pieces of fruit and vegetables. Ok, now you get it?

Portrait Series: Nathan Manire

Nathan Manire is the creative genius behind a series of watercolor illustrations featuring the head shots of such icons as Hunter S. Thompson, Jack White and Tome Yorke. I love the pops of color.

Portraits from Around the World

The work of Joey L. is simply put, incredible. His impressive list of clients include Warner Brothers Records, Forbes, and NBC. However, it's his personal work that really caught my eye (pun intended). He has a series called Portraits from Around the World that left me speechless. Oh, did I mention he's only 18? This guy has talent. Big time.

markercomp

Marc Stolove is an advertising creative based out of New York. He and Freddy Jana, his work partner, decided they wanted to bring some creative control back into their lives. And so the story goes about markercomp, their blog of creative whiteboard illustrations. Sometimes the simplest things can produce truly unique results. Visit their blog to see more of their work.

26 Abandoned Gas Stations: Eric Tabuchi

Remember Eric Tabuchi and his Alphabet Truck project? Well, he's done it again. His latest project is Twenty Six Abandoned Gas Stations. This man's work really, truly, makes me want to take a road trip.

Wall Blank

Jenn e-mailed me last week to let me know of a new project she started back in October. It's called Wall Blank and it works like this, "A new piece of art will be posted for sale every weekday, available for one week or until it sells out, whichever comes first. Once an edition is sold out, it will never be available again." And there you have it. Pretty cool idea, eh? I look forward to checking back and seeing what's available.

Museum of Broken Relationships

The Museum of Broken Relationships is a traveling art installation that asks locals of the exhibit's current city to donate items from their failed relationships. "The Museum offers every individual the chance to overcome the emotional collapse through creation." Whether a one-night stand or divorce from a 20-year marriage, they want your relationship junk. The exhibit debut in Croatia and will hit the States on (ironically) Valentines Day in San Francisco at the Root Division gallery.

Catnip Camera

Believe it or not, the above photo was taken by a cat. Yes, a cat, who goes by the name Cooper. Filmmakers Michael and Deirdre Cross decided to see if their talent behind the camera had spread. They admit they were also curious to see what Cooper was up to when they were out of the house and what adventures he might find for himself. The two strapped a camera to Cooper's collar which was programed to take a picture ever 2 minutes. He took between 200-400 pictures a day and has been documenting his daily life for over a year now. You can view Cooper's work on Flickr in his very own collection called CAT CAM.

Toaster Museum

I can't remember the last time I made toast. I go through phases where I love it or hate it. But, regardless of what my current feelings towards the breakfast standard, the Toaster Museum is pretty sweet. Maybe I'd make more toast if I had one of these!

Monthly Journal Box Set

My friend Savannah pointed me in the direction of these fabulous journals by Pottery Barn. One for each month and plenty of pages for keeping memories and insights. I love the textures and colors.

The Life Aquatic with Bruce Mozert

I remember getting my first waterproof camera for a childhood water park birthday party. That was the mid-90s and the pictures were dismal at best. Back in the 1930s, Bruce Mozert also had an underwater camera, arguably the only person in the world to claim such ownership. With it, he is attributed as having saved the image of Silver Springs, Florida. "Mozert pioneered underwater photography, building waterproof housings that allowed him to go deep with a camera in hand." Back in May, Smithsonian Magazine ran an article featuring Mr. Mozert and his wonderful photography. View more of his work at the Smithsonian Magazine website.

Coffee Art: Christoph Niemann

I love coffee, always have and probably always will. My affinity for coffee, however, is nothing compared to Christoph Niemann's feelings toward the beverage. Just take his word for it, "I like coffee so much that I have tea for breakfast: The first cup of the day in particular is so good that I’m afraid I won’t be able to properly appreciate it when I am half-asleep." But if his word is not enough, his art may very well be. He has a whole series of illustrations not only inspired by coffee, but drawn with coffee (on napkins nonetheless). He was recently featured on the New York Times Opinion blog and you see more of his work there.

Donkey Product Glasses

I've often heard people describe cheap beer as "tasting like piss." I'm not a big beer drinker, but if I do I like my beer cheap. To those who feel their tastes are too elite for the Stag of the beer world, I only wish I had one of these to serve your drink in. As the Donkey Products website says, "Every drink eventually runs low – but at least with style." This made my day.

More Wapping Project Goodness

I can't tell you how happy it'd make me to stumble upon this tree in person, especially on a rainy day. This piece, titled Bloom, is the work of Sam Spenser and is currently part of an installation at the Wapping Project called Yellow Since 1877. Remember the Wapping Project Greenhouse Bookshop? This lovely image of Spenser's work was captured by Flickr user warholuva. I think I need to seriously consider a trip to London, particualry to pay the Wapping Project a visit. Who's coming with me?

Bokja Furniture

If I were a couch, I would be this one by Bokja. Named after the Turkish word for an embellished velvet wrapping of treasures, they carry vibrant upholstered vintage furniture that I'd simply love to fill my home with, seriously.
