Pablo Object Frame

I haven't posted a good bookshelf in a while, and the Pablo Object Frame made me realize it. I love the idea of framing a 3D object, like a stack of books or a vase. Super clever!

Greenhouse Bookshop: The Wapping Project

This is the first I'm hearing about the Wapping Project, but I'm clearly out of the loop. An "idea consistently in transition," the Wapping Project is a restaurant and art center built in an old London hydraulic power station. Jules Wrigh, director of the project, purchased the space in 1993 and has opened its most recent addition, a greenhouse bookshop in the facility's garden. If I'm ever in London, this is on my list of places to visit.

Vintage and Retro Typography: Smashing Magazine

Smashing Magazine never ceases to impress me with their articles. In a recent post they pay homage to vintage and retro typography in an impressive showcase titled Let the Good Times Roll. Some of their examples are new while others are old, but all are equally as beautiful.

Never Forget

Oh, this just made me smile. Too cute. Ephemeral art at its best.

Love this photo by Toni Frissell titled Passing in Victoria Station, London. Pure elegance, no? It's from a 1951 Haper's Bazaar.

Photography of Chris Leah

There is something about U.K based photographer Chris Leah's work that strikes a chord with me. His photographs are so simple, so everyday and yet they are utterly fascinating. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Chris through email about his work.
"I have always been fascinated by people and how they live. Detail, humour and looking for the unusual are driving factors in my work. I like to photograph everyday scenes but make them look special."
And, that he does! He has two portfolios of work available for viewing on his website that are well worth a look.

Ballyhoo!: Posters as Portraiture

My blogging-buddy Zac from Living in Misery pointed me in the direction of this awesome Smithsonian installation called Ballyhoo!: Posters as Portraiture. "By interweaving the three themes of poster art—celebrity promotion, and advertising—this exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery’s collections examines how a famous face can enhance a poster, and, conversely, how posters have defined reputations of prominent Americans." Really interesting topic and equally as engaging array of posters.

Garment Graffiti: Thomas Voorn

Graffiti like you've never seen it before. Thomas Voorn created a series of written messages made out of colored clothing. He calls the work Garment Graffiti.

35 Year Collection of the Top 100 Records

This is maybe the most excessive, albeit awesome thing ever. A hyperbolic statement to some, but to the vinyl lovers of the world it's anything but. A 35 Year Collection of the Top 100 45 RPM Records. "To be clear, it contains each and every 45 RPM vinyl record that was listed on the Billboard Top 100 Rock and Pop charts from Jan. 1, 1955, through Dec. 31, 1990. Absolutely every disc for 35 years, every No. 100 up to every No. 1." All this for the price of  $275,000! Awesome idea, outrageously expensive.

Crates are for Milk: The Record Cabinet

I love the quip on the Atocha Design website, "Milk crates are for milk, the Atocha design Record Cabinet is for storing records." The design of the cabinet allows for storing records in a manner that is conducive for browsing and appreciating the cover art. It also comes with four drawers for storing CDs. Pretty much perfect in my book.

Wonderful Graffiti

I 100% adore these vinyl text stickers by Wonderful Graffiti. I would love to spruce up a blank wall with something witty or creative.

The Sculptures: Osang Gwon

The album art of Keane's new album Perfect Symmetry has been getting a fair deal of buzz around the blog world, and it's no wonder. The cover design is the work of photographer and artist Osang Gwon. His latest exhibit consists of photograph covered sculptures.

Gee’s Bend Quilts

The Philadelphia Museum of Art currently has an exhibit of the Gee's Bend Quilts. According to the museum's website, "This exhibition takes a fresh look at the quilting traditions in the community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, introducing new artists and motifs in works dating from the early twentieth century through 2005." They have approximately 74 utterly unique and undoubtedly amazing quilts on display. If you're in the are before December, check it out.

Oven Lust, Who Knew: La Cornue Château 150

Sometimes I like to play this little game of make-believe, in which the economy is fabulous, I'm rich and I have a lovely new home to furnish. My most recent 'make-believe' purchase was this La Cornue Château 150. I had it imported from France and it only cost me $36,000.00. Alrighty then, back to reality.

The CitySlipper by SWIMS

Little beats an item that is both fashionable and practical. The CitySlipper by SWIMS is an example of that. The rubber galoshes are flexible and fit over most high heels while they provide traction for slippery surfaces. How about this added bonus? The sole of each product is imprinted with a map of either New York, Paris or Tokoyo.

Tonke Campers

I'd love to hit the road in a Tonke Camper. Their design is inspired by the gypsy caravan and each one is hand built. Route 66 here I come!

Why Are There So Many Songs About Rainbows...

But not nearly enough stairs inspired by them? I love this installation by Scottish artist Jim Lambie at MOMA. It was created by meticulously laying strips of colored vinyl tape along the floor. It's dizzying, but I love it!

The Bowler Bag: Acme Made

I recently 'inherited' my grandfather's old camera and with it came a vintage leather carrying case that I simply adore. It reminds me of 'The Bowler' bag by Acme Made. The bowling bag inspired camera case is something I would be more than happy to carry around my belongings in.

Vanishing America: Michael Eastman

I dedicated this post to my younger sister, who after spending a stint of her summer in Paris, is now in love with all things French. This photo is part of a series by Michael Eastman called Vanishing America and the photos truly encompass the title. Does anyone else wish they could call this bright little place home?

50 Incredible Film Posters From Poland

My friend and neighbor Zack tipped me off to WellMedicated's impressive post 50 Incredible Film Posters From Poland. I'm currently working (attempting at aleast) my way through the movies on the Top 50 lists and Raging Bull is on several of them. It's next on my to-see list.
